I'm installing a new build the chap is convinced that the meter needs to be at wheelchair height but I can't find an answer for this in the OSG - I don't think they're subject to 450 1200 rules as thats switches and sockets - anyone know anything else?

Oh yes - Shower Isolater (above the bathroom door) is this classed as an isolater therefore not a switch or socket

recommende height for Consumer unit is 1200-1500mm. the meter is not your concern. fan isolator is for maintenance puposes so at ceiling height is fine. if using an in-line fan in the attic. put the isolator up there.

Well the OSG just say that CCU should be readily accessible. In most building Regs they do stipulate in new builds that switches and sockets be of the 450/1200mm range.

What chap are we talking about here? if he is the client and he wants the CCU at this height range, is there a good reason why you don't want to give him it.

Pretty sure in the case of the shower isolator it would also be classed as a switch, again why is it above the door?

The client is a part time builder and a friend of his has just had some flats done where he saw the meters installed at kitchen worktop height this freind has told him that that's the height they need to be at. He didn't get a meter box installed in the brickwork as he was building the house so is buying a meter box today, I'm happy too fix it where he wants but don't recall reading anything about meter box height, but as teletrix as said it's not normally my concern.

I'd been led to believe thats the normal place for the shower isolator above the door to the bathroom door is that not right?

You can sometimes get a fan isolator above a door. normally a shower isolator would either be one of these inside on the ceiling

SMJ Ceiling Switch & Neon 45 Amp Douple Pole

Or one of these outised the batroom and normal switch height

Switch Double Pole 45 Amp 1 Gang Plus Neon White - 046340 - White Sockets & Switches - Lyvia - DIY and Tools from DIYTools.co.uk - Your First Stop For All Things DIY !

The meter box height will normally be dictated by the DNO as it's there equipment. They will take things like flooding and such into consideration and of course access for meter reading.

teletrix - it's my confusion I mean't fan isolator and kept on typing shower isolator (doh) - there are three shower rooms in this house and ....................... so that's fan isolator - the three pole large switch for maintenance and hence just above door. I like the 45A double pole shower isolator outside the door at switch height.

So my apologies - and thanks
