I am deviding and extending an existing property into 2 semi detached houses .
I have only one elec supply , so will need to have another new supply added .
The existing supply and meter enters inside the house , and I assume this will remain as it is .
The new seperate supply can enter in the new side extension ,
via a duct I will place in the ground to receive the cable when EDF come to make the connection when construction is complete .
The question is.....as the property is in a conservation area , and the conservation / planning officer wont like a plastic meter box in the front wall , can I enter the duct into the new extension internally or will EDF have some regulation that doesnt like this - with no external access ?
I cant ask EDF , as they wont give me any info , or let me speak to an engineer until the job has been estimated , priced and paid for (which will take time )
I need to do groundworks / bricklaying now .

If they won't talk to you then I would be writing to them advising them that you have tried to contact them verbally seeking advice, to which they have ignored.

That you are unable to fit an external meter box due to it being a conservation area and therefore you are running the access duct internally as you can not hold up the ground works any longer, and if you do not receive a reply from them in say 2 weeks, then you must assume that this is ok with them.

I would send a copy of this to every man and his dog that is also involved in the project and sit back and see.

thanks.
So is there any actual regulations regarding if you must have a external meter box to a new supply , or is it at the whim of what EDF wants ?

Also , what dia duct size would be required ?
the cable size I understand for single phase is approx 30 mm dia external ???
I have been told that it is reasonably flexible , so with a draw rope in the duct ,
would the cable negotiate a 45 degree bend ?

You should speak to the council about this really.

Duct wise, 50mm flexible is what i use.

Slow bends where needed. The duct will have a basic string in it, which the DNO will attach a decent sized rope to, to pull their cable in.

Some wholesalers have it in stock, only in 50M rolls though at around ÂŁ60 ish.

Yeh that’s my thinking. I have to supply the box so can order a bigger 3 phase option to give myself a bit more room
