Hi guys,

A friend has just bought a house an the electrics haven't been touched since the 60s when it was built.

Still on fuse wire bacolite fuse carrier etc...

So the problem is the Gas meter is infront of the main fuse and fuse board. The gas meter blocks clear access to the fuses.
This makes putting a new consumer unit in pretty tricky.

Gas board have said its not their problem. An it will be £600+ to have them move it out of the way ( approx 600mm).

Any thoughts?

I'll try get a photo tomorrow. An you could probably pull the service fuse but you'd have to be nimble. I believe the DNO are going to upgrade the service fuse carrier etc... Although when they changed mine they had the live conductor bare but in this installation they'd be right up against the gas main. Not an ideal setup.

well, hoefully the DNO can give BG a kick up the arse and make them move it. our gas meter ain't obstructing anything, but it's floor level in the corner of the garage, right next to the workbench so is usually coverd with bits of this and that. when BG come to read it, they always moan. my reply is " you put it in a stupid place so bugger off "
