Evening guys,

I`m doing a rewire and the meter tails need upgrading to double insulation.

Can I cut the seal to connect the new tails?

If its the meter then you should contact the DNO and arrange for them to connect them , its illegal to cut the meter seals , bad enough cutting the main fuse seal which is also illegal ,yes i know we do , but contact DNO explain the situation they should send some one out to seal for you or better still as its a rewire ask them if they can install a switch they will then replace the tails to the switch and then you can connect your new tails to the switch when you need to

[ElectriciansForums.net] Meter seal, tails upgrade?Do they normally charge for coming out to cut the seals mate?

Here`s a picture guys.

belive it or not the tails from the meter are not there responcability , but the meters are sealed and as you cant cut the seals then they should carry out the work free of charge , but contact the DNO for advice , they may well charge for the installation of the switch and depending which area they are from they may do it free , looking at your meter the lables say it all

british gas charge ÂŁ39 for 100A DP main isolator switch , new tails from cut out to meter and meter to dp iso then you fit yours as and when on load side, also new digi meter if other is 10yr old at least thats what they said with last one but still changed it anyway

dont know what others charge though mate
BG charge ÂŁ39 for one or all of above

Best advice I can offer is cut the DNO seal connect your new tails and the existing into a henley block as a temp measure then get the distributer to connect to the meter and reseal the lot
