I MISSED THE LAST THREAD LIVE AND NEUTRAL REVERSE

these metering guys only do 2/3days training they are not qualified people just proven to be competent in there ridiculous days training
I finished a 2nd fix on a new hse whilst waiting for a meter to go on in the same week, all i had left to do was the testing this metering guy turned up un announced did his work and energised the DB to check the electric.

it was switched it on in my absense without my consent and a mcb (bang!!!!) "HOW DARE HE" im then informed i have a fault on a circuit in this new house!!! These people need at least 1 years learning.:gunsmilie: and yes thats what i wanted to do to him.
it didnt occur to lock off a DB that had no meter fitted as i was there for the duration but called away for a day and the idiot turned up.

i told him i would speak to his superior and if its his companys proceedure for him to loose his job then so be it, he was very sorry for his actions and i quote HE DIDNT KNOW

I was called out yesterday to a customer "flickering lights and a funny smell". Attended to discover that the supplier's neutral (between head & meter) was overheating....probably because it was, at a guess, only 6mm!

Scottish Gas had installed a new electricity meter around one month previously and never mentioned the neutral tail- just bunged the neutral into the meter and tried to wrap a "N" sticker on it. The cable was so thin, the lable wrapped round itself until the N could not be seen!

Regards.

Well technically speaking, you don't always have to fit 25mm tails. 16mm tails are quite sufficient to 80A incomer (and more). Just because they're 25mm tails in the pretty pics in the OSG, doesn't mean to say that they're the only option. Do the cable maths, and all is revealed.

Im sure OSG says we got to fit minimum 25mm tails, regardless of calcs

Could be wrong though

Check, and report back! There's a pint in the arms says you won't find it. What you WILL find are the three supply/earthing arrangement diagrams which happen to use 25mm in their example, but then you'll also find in chapters 1 & 3 of the regs that it's up to you to size a cable suitable for the load and intended purpose.

Ive found what i saw before and it states minimum of 25mm, once ive had tea ill fire up the laptop to try upload photo

Which colour OSG? I haven't gotten around to getting the new one yet.

Managed to fire the laptop up, photo just taken from 17th Edition Red onsite guide page no 17

How is it that the osGUIDE (and niceic and others) can categorically state something like this which is not in the regulations and is not true - because,as has been said, you may apply the maths and do otherwise.

There are enough rules without other publications telling us 'this is what they really meant'.

Yep, same colour as mine. The crux here is the third paragraph.
