Just a warnin to all.....dont leave testers in cold vans overnite then just start usin em before lettin them warm up a bit first.....it kills em....My boss has just had to get his sorted out by Metrels as it had blown 4 resistors in it......and he was asked where he kept it at night...."in the van" he had said.....well theres your problem thay said.....it had failed on high loop and 10mA RCD...amongst a few other things as well.....i just got a feelin it wasn`t right the other day when i was usin it.....put it up against mine.....it was miles out lol.....but apparently thats an issue with testers....they dont lke going from cold to use in less than it takes for em to normalise......

have to get a kitchen fitter to fix the hooks..... give me some remedial work replacing drilled cables.
just be sure they didn`t pull in the cables n all by mistake....or went about burying joints in the wall....as she will be moanin about strange voltages sittin on that plaster...lol.....

Ah yes, meters in the cold. I worked on a site (long time ago) where anything that had an LCD or batteries couldn't be used. Both would freeze so hard and fast that the screen or battery would split. Analogue was no good because the needle would stick solid too.

The only way you could do anything with them was to have the meter inside your coat and bring the leads out through a hole into a pocket then out from there. Peeping inside your coat for a reading, ahh the memories. It was better once the shell of the building was complete, we only had to wear one pair of gloves and the meter could be in your pocket. Bloody glad we didn't have MFT's then, imagine trying to stuff that up your jacket. Never mind trying to fiddle with the buttons etc.

theres always telepathy.....like a "mind meld" with the tester.....then any values you are wanting (so you can get home early)....you just "will" the tester to respond appropriately....there!...job sorted and it never needs to leave your coat pocket!!...

If you look at a calibration certificate for a meter, the first section should be acclimatisation time.

In other words how long it’s been chucked in the heap in the corner to warm up.

I went off & did a confined space course (not for work) just so i could get into my side of the wardrobe & shed.LOL

sorry guys this is way to late din't see second page

yes...the higher the ambient tempreture....the higher the resistance/impedence......

I seem to remember somewhere (GN3 maybe?) that it's written that we should neither install or test cables when the ambient temperature is below that of your van with the heaters on.
