megger for me always. still using a megger continuity/|IR tester from 1979 for faultfinding. other members may swear by fluke or metrel,
theres a slim seaward one out there that does the basics for 350 sheets... instead of 5-6-7 00
opening a 1553 is not as easy as it looks.first remove the batteries, then you need to peel the front label off as there are fixing screws behind it, when all screws are out, you need to open it carefully, then you can access the terminals.the plugs in the unit for the leads have pulled out with the leads on my Megger 1553 which has hardly been used. Merger won't fix it as they say it is obsolete. I'm pretty upset by their stance TBH. So If a meter breaks, you have to buy the latest model?
I have just had it back from evaluation so will be posting on here when I have the unit open for advice on a DIY fix.
