Looking for someone with experience of terminating large MICC cables up to 240mm. If anyone is interested in the give me a private message. Work is in London.

Just wondering if those two sizes are made to order only??
Also noticed, there is no ''screw on'' pot seals for these two sizes of single core cables....

At those sizes could it actually be worked and are they listed just to upstage their competitors who don't list sizes above 240mm

Copper may be many times softer than steel, but within a confined space of say 1 metre X 1/2 Metre or less, that 240mm of copper conductor may just as well be 240mm of steel if your trying to bend dress/set it within that space!! lol!!

dfc spark, ....any chance of posting up a photo or two of this MICC installation especially of the terminations. Perhaps you could also give us a little more information, as to why MICC cable was specified for this job??

There are tools for dressing large cables. We have a huskie battery operated bender that I picked up in the states and it's priceless when it comes to bending large conductors in confined spaces.

I can't say that i've seen one to be honest, ..it'll need to be pretty strong to set-in/dress 240mm.

Got to be much easier (and cheaper) using smaller parallel cables rather than trying to manhandle large single core MICC cables

Just noticed the thread. That would take a bit of elbow grease. 25mm is the biggest I've worked with.
I've seen bigger feeding sub boards/panels in petro chemical industry but they'd been in for donkey's years and would have taken some shifting... solid as rock but works of art. Like to know the diameter of 240mm.

Biggest cable I've seen is bout 35mm being a apprentice, but I love to see something like 240mm being dressed and glanded that sounds an unreal size cable

Does up to 1000 MCM so it's pretty tough. Did you never have to make the crude version using a piece of flat bar and a few sockets from a 1/2 inch socket set.

But i have seen some very skilled TCN/Filipino electricians and installation fabricators, make and use bars and tools to shape and dress large conductors in what seemed impossible spaces/conditions, ....that you would think had always been there!! But it did sometimes take them an awful lot of time.

Can you post a photo up and give the units name and model number?? Might just get the contractor to purchase a trial unit....

I've used several methods in bending larger cables, the problems come when you're trying to bend cable in confined spaces. The old hands at the company i did my training with, had made their own various bending formers, but they tended to be on the long side to get the leverage. Some were bit's of art in their own right, having thick leather faces where cable came in contact...

Anyway, i'll be showing the appropriate people here the attached PDF file and the youtube video. It looks as if it could well be of benefit in more than a few upcoming site cabling exercises....

Any idea of what the current price (in any currency) would be??

WOW, never worked or seen micc that size, biggest I have made off is 2H16.

I think we paid around 3000 US Dollars for the for the machine with the cutting head plus the additional bending head. I should be able to get a definate figure from our accounts by Monday.

Biggest pyro I've done was 95mm single core.
