Anyone involved in this? Looks like Barker is raising the FITs for it so it may be worth looking at.

As a customer, I'm potentially interested in a Micro-CHP combi-boiler (depending on cost, reliability, whether it would suit my house etc.), However, the only micro-chp combi which seems to exist at the moment is the Remeha eVita, and it is very difficult getting any information on when (or if), this will be available in the UK, MCS accredited etc.

The ecogen is not a combi - i.e. requires a cylinder. The eVita (if I understand correctly - most of the details about it are in Dutch!) is a combi and doesn't require a cylinder (although can optionally work with a cylinder for instance if combined with solar thermal panels). My house is quite small, so I want to avoid having a cylinder and a boiler. The eVita is also quite compact.

However, yes, the prices are very off putting - hence my tentative interest as a customer.

Micro CHP would be right up my street coming from the heating industry, unfortunately I think British Gas have an exclusive deal on the Ecogen which makes them hard to compete with. I've seen figures of ÂŁ6000 fitted, and online resources show a cost of about ÂŁ5500 + vat (not sure if it's eligible for the 5% rate)

Also noticed very few MCS shemes running it as a supported technology so may have to change providers or even worse, have 2!

I love CHP. Unfortunately i don;t see the demand/market for it at the moment, but i'm keep looking. I just to work on the large scale power generation for an international generation company, and was my favourite technology (after hydro). Brilliant systems for domestic level, I believe (at least in theory)

In terms of price, i couldn't make it work when offering a system at cost, with labour and design for free.

I may be interested in that if you're offering :wink5:

Seriously, this is definitely a product for the ecologically minded and not those wanting a high return investment product.

Well maybe, where are you based?? I normally like to use my friends and family for my experiments just in case it all goes wrong!!.. But it's all about PV again now, got a thermal system and a ground source heat pump done in Jan but now we are getting busy again.

And yes to you have to be ecologically minded...... very ecologically minded. Sadly we are few and far between.
