Hello, im going to be going some PAT testing soon, the office im doing had there microwaves tested last time, ive never tested a microwave for leakage before, is it easily done?? how do you do it??

You stick your phone in the microwave, shut the door. Get someone to call your phone.
If it rings then the microwave is leaking radiation.

Ha ha no seriously, have you/they got a leakage detector?

It's even easier and even more boring than PAT testing.

Basically rub the meter all around the microwave whilst you scratch your bum or pick your nose for a couple of minutes and record the Reading.

Always do a visual inspection first an look for any cracks around the door or hinges. If there are no obvious cracks then any leakage will be negligible.

I take it is earth leakage or touch leakage you will be testing with your PAT. Its surely not microwave leakage you are trying to test.

The leakage test for microwave radiation is done with a calibrated leakage meter and a beaker with 275ml of water inside and the oven set to full power. The door safety interlock switch is also tested if doing a standard microwave safety test.

Steering slightly off subject guys but -

Testing something for radiation leakage when you are perfectly happy to put your dinner in it?!

Doesn't that worry you?

Laugh at me now but those machines will prove to be contributors to many forms of cancer in the future.

They were banned in Russia for many years after scientists proved that the mutations to proteins in food were very dangerous.

Just Google dangers of Microwave cooking Etc...

Don't Nuke your food!

Look what happens to an egg when you put it in the microwave!

A woman died during a hospital operation after blood for a blood transfusion was warmed in a microwave.
Blood is routinely warmed for transfusions but not in microwaves. This suggests microwaving doesn't just warm things. It alters them at a cellular level.
