the thing is, if lets say i had a child (i dont), and he/she were to come in contact with somebody who was later found to be a peadophile (i hate even typing that word), then i would welcome the CRB check for anybody who came in contact. the thing is, everybody is now under suspicion, and that isnt good for anybody. the few sick minded have ruined it for everybody, as usual. let them rot.

Like Malcom I help-ed out at a boys football traimimg same senario humphing stuff collecting balls ect ect i had been Disclosure Scotland checked several times for work the club were then told that EVERYONE including casual help (ie me n a couple of others) HAD to do Enhanced disclosure @ £60 they nor myself would pay that hence the boys lost out as coaches had to use time to collect stuff ect Even running boys to training and games had to have enhanced disclosure we couldnt even give our boys best pals a run even though they were in n out our house 7 days a week staying over running in n out
the government wonder why kids clubs ect are closing down its NOT that kids ect arent attending its due to them not being able to afford CRB ect for every helper along with all the other regulatory red tape

Absolutely spot on mogga I paid the CRB check myself and half of the coaches course as if the club paid for it, it would mean that they would have had to divert funds. Small clubs rely on the parents/friends to pay themselves otherwise they would fold.

I have no problem with making our kids safe, but all these nursery workers in the West country would all have been enhanced CRB checked, and a fat lot of good it did.

A good friend of mine was a cricket umpire and ran a kids cricket club for years. 5 years ago he had to get a CRB done, and it came back that he had a record. In 1984 he was arrested during the miners strike for secondary picketing and was charged with assault. This guy owned his own business, was a Councillor for years, his wife and him ran a local charity for kids to go away on camps, and something that he did then over 20 years ago was paraded in front of his peers, I think sometimes the UK as got things so wrong it is laughable.

oh and as for the CRB its another lets make money scheme yes im all for the CRB , but i now have 6 checks 1 for each of the groups i work with and schools old peoples home etc , drive me insane

From what I gather Disclosure Scotland are soon to change that ONE check covers the person rather than each group,job,volentery thing requires an individual check

I just googled the CRB test you all mention and apparently it's free for volunteers so maybe Mogga et al can get a refund.

From 6 April 2011, the following fee levels will apply throughout the remainder of 2011/12.

• Enhanced CRB check £44.00
• Standard CRB check £26.00
• ISA Adult First check £6.00

CRB Checks for volunteers will continue to be free of charge.

I'm not convinced a criminal background check is going to make much of a dent in your average pedophile's activities but the Orwellian approach is certainly making everyone else suffer. I've thought about this a lot today and I'm still taken aback by the system you're living with and I'm hoping it's not a social model that gets exported elsewhere. I did some googling and light reading earlier and I can't figure out how a change in attitude as radical as this one came about. Obviously measures must be taken to protect children but look whats been sacrificed......it makes me sick to think that men are actually scared to interact with children for fear of some kind of police interrogation. I don't know what else to say

Police report on the news just this morning that Police have broken up a pedo ring with 70 - 100,000 members, so thats a step in the right direction.
And now that Nick is going to toast all their nuts they should be easier to spot when they're checked, (lot of nuts though Nick, how much for each ... erm ... test. )

I think it is great that people give up their spare time to encourage kids to do sports and activities as mentioned on here.

Marvo, in this country right now to take children away for weekends to a holiday home you would have to get a letter from the pope signed with his own blood. It's gotten that silly. I admire what you do but in GB even with an advanced crb and written permission from the parents, others would find it strange that you spend so much time with other peoples kids and rumours start flying about. Thats what's wrong with this situation, we need to protect every child but not for the price of their happiness.

With the busy lifestyles of the working family its a god send to be able once or twice a week to send your kids to football practice, play groups and the like. If these places are closing down due to costs if crb checks the kids end up in the street unsupervised with a much higher risk of the unthinkable happening.

We need to get the kids out of the house away from computer games, internet and mobile phones and into such clubs for them to increase their learning and communication with others. When was the last time you saw a child climbing a tree or making a tyre swing? Are these skills getting lost due to parents keeping them indoors for the fear of what may happen?

There are 3 main responsibilities for adults to children. Protect them, educate them and make it fun. Let kids be kids for as long as possible, you'll never get your childhood back.
