Mini Cooper S ECU Issue (I bet know one can help)

There are 2 minis listed as 2006, one gives more data on the bus than the other, more on the later cars but below is the same for both vehicles

CAN Bus Settings: The CAN bus must be configured at a baud rate of 500k.

On this vehicle CAN data is not available via the OBD Port. Instead CAN connection cables can be found in various positions around the vehicle such as behind the instrument cluster, or behind side panels in the drivers side footwell.
The CAN cables are a twisted pair usually in the following colours:
CAN High - Yellow/Black
CAN Low - Yellow/Brown

Hello mate I had my mini to bits last weekend to replace a few parts. It had new clutch as that was slipping like mad a new alternator because although it was putting out 14v I reaslised the casing was cracked whilst I had it apart to service super charger and power steering pump as I had intermittent heavy steering. After reassembling everything I thought I’d have another go at communicating with the engine and to my surprise it’s actually communicating now. I can’t really explain why the only thing I can think is somehow the steering pump was shorting out internally and causing an electrical fault im not sure if this is even possible but I have no other explanation of how these repairs could of made any difference. Might be worth thinking about if you’ve had any issues with your steering?

Did you get this car sorted? If not disconnect the abs pump and try scanning again. Abs ecu can sometimes block ecu signals. Bad on Corsa D for this.

Hi mate thanks for your reply, nope still not fixed.... I have an auto electrician there today that I have paid for the day.... so far he has had no luck fixing it so looks like ive lost another £200.... will try disconnecting the abs pump and see if he doesnt fix it

Don't know if it's fixed yet or not, I didn't have time to read through all the posts. I had a similar issue with my F30 335i, I know two different cars. In short, check the little computer on the negative battery post cable, also even though your Alternator, Water pump, power steering read correctly they may still be faulty. Don't know if you have taken it to a shop while this is happening but that's the best time time, it's hard to find an issue that's not there all the time. FYI when you take it in while the issue is present, don't shut the car off just leave it running while you run in and talk with them, it may be a good idea to talk to a shop ahead of time and make a plan with them to stop by while the issue is happening.

had similar problems with a Nissan Primastar ( Renault Trafic in disguise). main dealer had it 8 weeks supposedly fixed. left main dealers and got 200 yards before it broke down again. took it to an independent garage who got it going. next stop was car auctions. cut losses but could then sleep at night.
