Minor works cert question

Hi all, some advice needed please - when changing a standard 2gang socket outlet to RCD protected 2gang socket would a minor works very be required.

Reading the regs it states that if a charchacteristics of a circuit change than it would, we are divided, I think not yet a mate thinks you should.

"characteristics" meaning of resistance on the cable which you havnt altered its just a face plate

Personally I would for an RCD plate, just to show test results and that the device was working when fitted.

I agree that we should complete an RCD test but a full circuit test seems to be excessive too me esp as we've not changed the circuit other than replacing all be it with added protection

Also depends on the customer, landlords, rental agencies etc may want a record of when the work was carried out. Also insurance companies.

so you change a socket face plate for a rcd socket you test (THE SOCKET) issue a minor works certificate and notify building control through your respected body..................... Q, how much have you charged for this 2 min job £100

i would probably test the rcd but to satisfy myself not go to more paperwork/building control etc

i would test RCD , IR test and Zs of the circuit . then a minor works cert.

only need to notify LABC if socket outlet is in a kitchen, bathroom, or outside.

Why would you notify!!!! You're only replacing a socket plate with a better one.This would not affect the characteristics of said circuit.Providing you tighten the terminals etc. your Zs would give you the exact reading.I would install the new RCD socket and test accordingly NOTHING MORE.

you issue minorworks you have to notify read up on minor works cause changing a socket plate is classed as diy as is a light fitting

disagree . no need to notify LABC as it's not a new circuit. ( unless it's in a special location)

Work that is not in a kitchen or special location and does not involve special installation
and consists of:

• Hot air saunas.
• Electric floor or ceiling heating systems.
• Garden lighting or power installations.
• Solar photovoltaic (PV) power supply systems.
• Small scale generators such as MicroCHP units.
• Extra-low voltage lighting installations, other than pre-assembled, CE-marked lighting sets.

NO NEED TO NOTIFY!!!! You are only replacing an accessory.you're not changing the cable size or adding to an existing circuit.
