Hi all
Am I right by saying what ever I add to a circuit has got to comply with 17th even if the existing circuit doesn't ie if I come off socket circuit that has no rcd protection that socket I put in has to have rcd protection

What if I'm coming off bathroom light to supply a bathroom fan and the circuit has no rcd prtotection but the fan I'm installing has a rcd fused connection unit. Will this be ok if there's supplementary bonding in place

No apparently the cable is within a bathroom so it has to have rcd protection even if its in trunking because its part of the circuit, so if it doesn't have rcd protection and only supplementary bonding it will still comply won't it

if you run the cable in the wall structure, the cable must have RCD protection too. therefore it is better to add an RCD at the beginning of the circuit.

If your bathroom has supplementary bonding then you don't need rcd but the cable between the light and rcd fused spur will not be rcd protection so if there's supplementary bonding will this still comply need answers people my heads in bits arrgghhh

the easiest way would be to RCD the lighting circuit or fit the RCD FCU in the loft before the bathroom light. (3a fuse to comply with manufactures instructions (for the fan))

No! you need RCD protection. you don't need supplementary bonding if there is RCD protection, not the other way around.
