youd be better off just taking out another contract, you will get the phone free then, otherwise its a good couple of hundred for a handset.

But then you'd be paying for 2 contracts, one of which you wouldn't use. I think what they're on about is putting the contract SIM into the PAYG handset to keep the same number, minutes etc.

I have used, blackberry, HTC and Samsung smart phones but none are as good at the IPhone, I found it hard to accept but now have one and it really is a much superior phone, it's not just the badge you pay a premium for, it is much faster and easier to use.

I have in the past ended contracts early.
Depending upon your provider and what services you have, it can work out cheaper than waiting till the end of the contract.
You may also find , that the disconnections people may offer you a deal allowing you to upgrade early.

Funnily enough "Computer One" has just come through the letter box.

Sim free phones:

Nokia Lumia 610 @ ÂŁ119

Samsung Galaxy Mini 2 @ ÂŁ129.00

Samsung E1200 @ ÂŁ16.95

Nokia Lumia 800 @ ÂŁ229

Samsung Galaxy SIII @ ÂŁ449

Samsung Galaxy Xtreme @ ÂŁ159.00

Could be easier buying one of these then getting tangled up in another contract!

It might be worth checking how much those SIM free handsets are on PAYG - if they're locked to the network often they will part subsidise the cost to encourage you to use it on their network.

My trusty Nokia N8 is playing up and today has died and won't restart so maybe its time to get a new one. I don't want an Iphone as I think they are a rip off.

I use it for

calls
texts
accessing 4 email accounts
calender (sync'ed with Outlook)
taking pictures
maps
accessing the internet

I'm guessing most smart phones do this but anyone got helpful suggestions please?

Thanks

Mate if you don't want the iPhone 5 you're a plonker.

I've said this to people for years now, and it took a year to convinve me even to get one so I'd have been saying it to even me. A guy you'd assume has all the latest gadgets that are worth it (I do, I just never got the iPhone 3 as I thought, like yourself, it's a rip off).

GET THE IPHONE FOR 7 DAYS ON A CONTRACT (you get 14 but don't screw around you'll know after 7 days if you like it or not) - IF YOU DON'T LIKE IT, TAKE IT BACK, PAY YOUR 1 MONTH LINE RENTAL - AND I'LL PERSONALLY REFUND IT TO YOU!!!!

It's a TomTom (okay so it's a bit screwed at the mo but you can still use Google Maps and other free map software), it's a diary, a planner, can get you footy scores on a voice command, is the internet, is your email manager, is in comparison to a top of the range digital camera, comes with millions of free apps and games, even old skool stuff like pacman if that's your flavour. The list goes on.

For the record, I have the Galaxy S3 and iPhone 4S. I think both rock I'd use either on their own. Out of the two, I use the iPhone most. Mostly due to the 5 times the amount of apps Google 'Play' have. And the fact they have probably around 7 times the developers working on apps than android. For now, iPhone for me.

Try it I swear to god short of dropping it and needing a small mortgage to get the cracked screen broken (which a good insurance will cover for free to be fair, house, bank, contents, traders, direct with the network provider, apple-care at least - loads of options really and a lot you might already have with your home contents or bank etc) then you're laughing.

Recently got the Nokia Lumia 800 on contract. ÂŁ27.50 on Orange with 600 mins, unlimited txts and 250mb of Internet. (phone was free). Excellent phone and does everything you want it to and more.

get 2nd hand smart phone, and just get a cheap sim only card, i got a 2 mouth old iphone 3gs for 150 pound and pay 9pound a mouth for my sim only deal ge 400min unlimit text 250 mb and free wifi

My contract is about to end in a couple of weeks and I have been looking at phones, I currently have the Nokia N900 and looking at changing to a iPhone 5 or Galaxy S3. I have decided to go the S3 on a all you can eat data (unlimited) bundle from '3'.
My mate has a S3 and he was getting up to 11.5 meg on a speedtest but best of all has a app on the S3 to use the phone as a wireless router and had 3 devices all connected and streaming from his phone without any problems. I couldn't find a app for iPhone which turns the phone into a wireless router. The wife has iPhone and iPad but I don't think they are as good as people make them out to be.

iPhone 5 has same ability, my wife has one. The wifi ability is built into the phone, no app required.

3 offer the best data packages, as they are unlimited (including tethered data). I have a 3 wifi dongle, which has been great. My with hasn't long had the iPhone 5, so can't comment much on that at the moment.
