I've just seen a job advertised, it involved self funded training (ÂŁ2700) but there is a 'guaranteed' job allegedly afterwards. You get 2 weeks of intensive training followed by a period of mentorship on the job, then it goes up to ÂŁ24k. It says you will be in paid work after 2 weeks of starting.

Does this sound like a good opportunity? Is the amount charged for training fair?

Here is the advert.

Trainee Electric Meter Installer (plus Guaranteed Job) - https://www.cv-library.co.uk/job/205595879/Trainee-Electric-Meter-Installer-plus-Guaranteed-Job?s=101754&rx_campaign=indeed9&rx_group=103276&rx_job=205595879&rx_source=Indeed&rx_medium=cpc&utm_source=Indeed&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=Indeed_&rx_medium=cpc&utm_source=Indeed&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=Indeed_0.09

As a job advert it is a ludicrous proposition, however it seems to be the way things are going now.
The training cost is probably in the right area for a two week course, a little high perhaps but the training may be more complex than it appears.
I would ensure that you have a written contract engaging you in a permanent position at the stated salary conditional only on you completing the training and mentoring before you start or pay anything.
If this is the type of work you feel you would enjoy doing and you have a good capacity for learning then providing you are prepared to donate 1/9 th of your salary to the company to pay for the training that they would otherwise have to provide for free then you can proceed.
