What in your experiene is the most physically demanding area of the electrical sector?

I've had a couple of jobs that were physically hard (Helping to wire mansions with huge ceilings, up and down 10 tread steps all day etc)

At the moment it's quiet and I miss being so active.

I had the nice end of disconnecting a "thinggy" big box god knows what it did it was all locked off n isolated I just undid the 8 cables then stood back and watched the "Slingers" move it along up along round the corner and along to the "Soft patch" on HMS Liverpool they made it look lik a wee bag of shopping it was 1 tonne of equipment they slung it n didnt touch the floor using slings and pulleys for around 200 mtrs in total it was poetry in motion Then the next day I had a wee box around 12x12 to disconnect n they removed the rudder like it was made of paper these guys were artists of movement
Electricaly Pulling cables specialy large long acward SWAs is another Poetry in Motion till some prat started Echoing the "SHOUT" he soon stopped when I went over and told him the smallest guy in the squad was same size as me and he didnt like getting upset Sheepish wee guy was feart to leave via door next to where cable was being pulled

Beat me to it mate, pulling in them big boys certainly seperates the men from the boys. Also I'd like to add spending days making nipples out of 25mm/32mm conduit. Still not sure to this day, whether it was punishment, or an old fashioned test of character!!!

I'd also like to add only two of us (both mates/labourers/donkies, call us what you will) unloading an articulated lorry load of gear. Everything from bundles of pipe, tray and trunking, to boxes and boxes and even more boxes of cable and other fixings and fixtures. We started at 08.15 and finished taking the last load to the stores at 16.45. It was the only time that a project manager bought us (slaves) a round. The funny thing was that the next day when all of the company's other mates/labourers turned in for work (as only two of us had turned up for work that day - knowing full well what awaited us); they had the harder job of spending all day getting the gear up to all the floors. God bless Doug james, who was the project engineer for Balfour Kilpatrick's at Imperial College. To this day, I'd love to meet that bloke again. He looked out for me, all the while, that I was on that job. Even though the site supervisor (Andy ?) and foreman (Steve ?) wanted shot of me because I kept blowing out, that man kept faith with me and supported my corner. Don't know what he saw in me, but he was a top bloke. And from what I remember, he was a mustang as well... in that he came up though the ranks.

pulling unsitrut up a rope on a ginnywheel, to the top of the boiler, on the Isle of grain power station. I would tie 2x 6m lengths on and then pull away. Tray was also a nightmare, as it was about 3mm thick, with 80mm lip. It was very heavy. It hbeat trying to carry it up the stairs though, which i had to do for about 2 months, until i persuaded a scaffolder to put a wheel in for me.

You'd have walked the fire services' entrance test after that!
