moulded plug

Hi,
I have a tv that has the power cable fixed behind a built in cupboard. It's now time to update the tv and dont want to have to take all the cupboard down. If I cut the moulded plug on the tv can I rewire a new plug on as normal?

I guess you mean cut the new TVs plugtop and feed the cable behind the cupboard otherwise it won't fit? You can cut off the plug top and replace it with a appropriately fused BS1362 plugtop BUT check as this may void your warranty on the TV

well i see this as a load of old nonsense cooked up by appliance manufacturers in order to get out of repairing/replacing what they make

That's just another load of old cobblers!! If an FCU complies with BS7671 as a perfectly adequate means of DP isolation, then who is a service repair technician to say otherwise?? If the guy is that incompetent, he can always use the MCB/Fuse in the CU to isolate, and that won't be DP either!! lol!!

You make too many assumptions you also do not read what has been written IT IS NOT THE SERVICE WHATEVER'S (insert appropriate term) DECISION IT IS THE COMPANY EMPLOYING THEM WHO MAKE IT via their H&S policy and method statements. ISOLATION OF APPLIANCE = REMOVE PLUG FROM SOCKET simples

There are enough threads on here highlighting dodgy and faulty wiring and non-existent earthing the service whatever is not there to or paid to carry out any other checks or isolation procedure other than remove the plug from the socket which unless this has changed is seconds of a job to do and provides isolation instantly

No cobblers involved, no complicated method statements just plain and very very simple isolation!! LOL!!

I'm not making ANY assumptions, i'm going by your statements!! The fact remains, if the repairman is that incompetent to know how to isolate an appliance from the supply he shouldn't be let loose in peoples homes!! What your saying, if i have read it right, ....if there is no plug to pull out, he walks away!! That's the cobblers i'm talking about!! ...lol!!

Bad practice (imo) to connect a tv flex straight into an FCU anyway. The householder can't move the TV somewhere else, or change it for another one without calling a sparky out. Much better with a 13A socket and a plug. Daz

same goes for kitchen appliances...1 or 2 gang front in the adjacent cupboard is better than a load of FCUs at worktop height in my opp....

It's only in the UK, that there is an obsession of calling everyone that comes into a home to repair or service something, Engineer's!! They are not, they are Service Repairmen, Tradesmen, or at best Technicians!! ...lol!!

It's cobblers, with a capital C, any service company with a policy like that wouldn't be in business very long, ...if at all!! Where do you get this crap from??
