Looked at a job today where the elderly occupants have the old rewirable fusebox tucked away high in a kitchen cupboard where neither of them can reach, or replace the fiddly fuse wire.
They've asked me to price up replacing the CU with a split RCD unit but would also like it lowering so they could access it.
The tails are fine as they come from below, but none of the circuits will reach, looking at lowering about a Metre.
Is crimping with heatshrink in trunking still the favoured way so it can be inspected or is they a new better system that the NIC etc prefer?
There are 12 different circuits so a JB would have to be pretty big to accomodate.
all wholesalers sell din rail. usually in 3ft. lengths. i get the din rail connectors from wagobox. they're push-ins. sizes from 1.0mm upwards. option os using gn/y striped ones for cpc's. got a pic somewhere. i'll try and post it.
Hi thanks, I know what they look like as I used them years ago whilst building control panels, just couldn't find any at usual sources, I'll try Wago website next.
we have just finished a job like this we used a large adapterable box and labeled all the cables but we went for the choc block way as some of the cables were to short to go on din rail. the old board had a 30amp 3036 protecting the lighting circuit. We have gone for separet rcbos.

The husband has done all the pased electrics in the house and let me tell you it has been bad. Lights wired in 1.5 on 30amp 3036 found a nail through the cable in kitchen rcbo was triping and ir test showed dead short between netural to earth kitchen sockets theres is 20 of them all spured of a spur. No bonding no smoke alarms no enclosures on conector blocks. it has been a right mess when the toilet light gets switched on it trips out 2 rcbos borrowed netural under the floor the list is loads we have made it a lot safer all rcbos new legs to connect up the kitchen ring bonding correct lights over bath shower enclosure
