Does anybody know which is the best all round multi meter for domestic testing. Looking at seaward at the moment, not sure!

Cut the guy some slack, He needs an MF for domestic. I prefer Megger myself Paul, but will admit to not knowing too much about Seaward, normally hear them mentioned in PAT / solar.

Erm all testing is the same regardless of what type if install it is, the soon we get rid of this domestic BS the better.

He has asked for a multi meter for which you have offered nothing apart from the name of a company that makes them really useful that.

Out of interest what do you need a multi meter for? they are okay for testing batteries and maybe the odd continuity test for a soldered joint but otherwise I would avoid one for domestic situations myself, just saying.

If you actually mean a multi-meter and not a multi function tester, then I would recommend something like a Fluke 117, I have one, it comes out the case about once a year. its handy to test underfloor heating resistances etc, and batteries, but generally I dont have a requirement for one.

If you are looking for a MFT (Multi Function Tester) I would get a Fluke 1654B as thats what I have and think its great, Fluke or Megger, both much of a muchness, RR or Bentley. Just get one that does everything as you may not need it all now, but I can bet you will need it if you don't have the function on a cheaper one.

I don't know what else I would use one for, my one still looks brand new in the case I use it that little.

Tbh depends how much you use it,

Our boss only ever buys individual meters but we solely test a inspect.
If we lost a meter on site we would be screwed if it was a multifunction at least you can still do other suff if you have individual meters

No way on earth i would be without a multimeter,a lot of what i do,the MFT is the "added" meter,so always have a couple to hand. There is always something during the fault finding adventure, that requires either a low DC or AC value, capacitance,or maybe even a good old needles speed, rise and fall.to point the way. I have used most, and own a good selection of marques and vintages, the latest being a Megger 410,that i'm quite attached to. I see a lot of lads, some long time served sparks, who put too much faith in the one MFT,maybe because of the cost,or its' makers list of claims, discounting "lesser" devices, and possibly missing out on those extra bits of help. My dad bought me my first multimeter at the age of eight, for testing my 6V spring terminal lantern batteries that i made hot-wire polystyrene cutters with...happy days...so OP,just buy one,buy two, spend a bit of time playing with em'...and enjoy:stooge_curly:
