I have a Fluke 117 does most of what you need for $179 it's worth the bucks...

That's a neat looking item Marvo, do you have a make and model for it?

It's an Amprobe and I can't remember the model number off hand. I'm sure you can get a dual display tester in most makes but I tend not to buy into the big brand names like Fluke and Megger just for the sake of it. I have another dual display clamp I keep in the workshop which is branded as Toptronic, manufactured by Bryman Electronics Taiwan, It's also a decent tester at a very reasonable price (which wouldn't appeal to the Fluke and Megger fanboys) :).

**Edit** Here's the details on the Aprobe tester http://content.amprobe.com/DataSheets/ACD-14_PLUS_DataSheet_RevB.pdf.

black dog, the 117 is made in china and only comes with a 2 year guarantee.

the 175/177/179 are made in usa and come with a lifetime on meter and 10 years on display.

that is the reason i avoided that range, it was tempting to get one though

Well that figures, I should have done my home work, I will look into the 175/177/179 Meters and send the 117 back to china.

So its made in China - to Flukes specification...so what?

So's my Apple iPhone, iPad, and most other stuff in my home.
The 117 is a good electricians meter.
dont be a tool, read the info.

every fluke make in the usa has a lifetime guarentee. the ones made in china have 2 years.

i would rather buy a 175/177/179 for the same price second hand because it will still last longer.

why would they offer only 2 years for the 117 if it wasnt made from inferior parts?

Tool eh?
I have many fluke instruments including another 3 multi-meters- the upper ranges.
It doesn't change the fact that the 117 is still a good electricians meter.
I've had mine maybe 4 years now, never had a problem, and should it fail I wouldn't hesitate to get another. Its also not such a big loss if it gets lost damaged or stolen - something the lifetime guarantee and extra price doesn't cover for.
