.......get eexperician while earning and asking for a reference on your cv wouldn't do any harm, Paul. M kindly let me work with him on my off days from college and gave me a smashing reference to put on my CV.

When Doody Toody says "smashing reference" he means...... Paul M lied through his teeth so he could get you an apprenticeship/job. Glad it worked out for you mate, lets meet up for a pint (this time without any random stone head picking a fight in the toilet pmsl...remember that lol).

@ Millwall, you will get used to the banter we have in here (the TS). It's our own little private section and we get to know each other and help each other out  Good luck and keep working hard.

When paul says lie through his teeth we both know that reference doesn't do me justice of how magnificent i truly am ;) i do, maybe choose a pub that isn't so rough this time

Some say modesty is my best virtue

Your a quick learner and sssooo modest with it lol.

Ok next time I'll pick a pub that does not have sawdust, blood and teeth on the floor :skull:

@ Joe, what others have said above is true. One of the things we all do is make our work look good as well as work correctly. Here is an example of a PV plant room I'm installing at the moment, not complete yet as you can see BUT the basics you are learning now will produce installs like this in the years to come.

Ok I did not do the panel work, the PV roofers did that, but I did all the tray work that is not in this picture. It looks good, trust me

That looks rely good I haven't done any tray work yet looking forward too it unlike other trades like plumbers who can hide most of their work behind plaster most of our work is out on display so to make it look profeshinal is a big part :)

Also apart from this forum do you know any other ways to find some work with a local sparky ?
Thanks

Preferably outside of leeds. I don't want to catch super gonorrhea
liking the tray work, i do love metal work. Haven't had chance outside of college to do any as of yet, or inside college tbh, was almost done with the metal work and got my apprenticeship, Pretty sure my level one class mates "Recycled" my work

You dont have to worry about "super gonorrhea". I've got more chance of pulling on a night out ""SON"". Still find it funny that we got asked if we were a Dad & Son team on site

I'm off to prison tomorrow, only for the day to start the plant room works. Should be a bit of tray and trunking works, I'll take a few pics and post them up for you all. It's nice doing this again, spent too long doing domestic. Unfortunately Doody I cant get you on this/these jobs... way too much red tape and hoops to jump through.

If you want to tag along on the odd Saturday (as and when kind of thing) on a PV install, give me a shout. It is very interesting work, the isolation of the inverter/AC, DC and the fusing of monitoring systems really gets you thinking. This Mentor has become the Trainee of late! It's a lot to take in trust me!!!

@Paul, see where your cables turn 90 to the vertical and leave the tray - the cables look like they are resting on a sharp edge of the tray (well, not knife sharp, but tray edge sharp).

I'm not picking fault (because I don't even know if it is a fault), just seeking advice: is that acceptable (ie is there not a possibility of cables rubbing and cutting) or should the tray be cut to allow the cable to exit cleanly?

Like I say, not saying it's wrong, just spotted it as a trainee and wondered and would appreciate comments.

Ask away hightower, that is what this section of the forum is all about

As above, the the tray does not have a sharp edge and is more than acceptably accommodating for SWA to sit on it. From tray to PV DB, it is a nice clean bend but if the tray was a little lower.... then is would have been easier to install and less stress on my hands and arms lol. (very stiff inner sheath btw).

Here is another example of a PV plant room install in a prison. Nice and neat swa tray work, cable tying etc etc etc.

As you can see the work is not complete yet, I'll take a few pics once it is finished.

ps those inverter's are 45Kg each. Absolute bar steward to fit on a wall!!!

Pukka job, the only thing that possibly lets it down is I think that may be a Proteus board? Lol ;)

Yes it is a 3PH Proteus DB.... oh the shame :blush5:. No room at all for a decent bottom entry using 10mm 5 core YY, I'll post up pics next week to show you.

I have used them before...... Even though I don't like to admit it here haha :blush2:. I know what you mean about hardly any space for bottom entry.

Just done another set up with a twin and earth 1.5 connected up to a switch and rose the loop took some time to get my head around but got it in the end don't have photos yet

Joe please take some photos's, it will be good to see how you are progressing. The things you are learning now will lead you to things like this:-

Not my normal type of works but what you learn in college sticks with you. Joe (and others) you will be doing this in the not too distant future! Learn what you can now.
