Hi all
Went to a block of flats (new) to look at a job and just looked at the meter cupboard (as you do ) the top flat tails must be 8/10 m in length with no isolator just into main credit meter. 25mm on 100A supply.
My question is is there a max length for a run of tails ??
thanks john

I suppose if said tails are clipped to wall and visible throughout, in a non public area, I'd apply common sense and leave them be.
As you say, meter changers couldn't give a .... Neither would I at ÂŁ10 or ÂŁ20 a job that they get.

Yes Archy as you say visible throughout and in the work shop so not public but it did used to be a church hall so how it was then I dont know. Not saying anything to boss he will turn it into a big job.

I have a similar job - need to move 8-way consumer unit from one side of attached garage wall (in very inconvenient position) into the house - length of additional run is about 7 meters. easiest route is thru garage ceiling void/along bedroom floor joist, then along wall then drill thru into house (under stairs cupboard). What is best way to do this?
Can I just extend the 25mm tails and earth wire to the new position by using an old consumer unit box with isolator as a junction box?
Can I run the tails in trunking or does it have to be visible?
The lighting circuits are not rcd protected, just the power ccts - would I need to rcd protect the lighting ccts once I extend the wiring to the new con unit (not concealed in plaster)?
Any help appreciated..
