Hi All,

I thought, I would carry on my Foru-Blogs for L3 after passing the L2. I started the new night class last week. Monday and Tuesday nights 5.15-9pm

EAL L3 Dip in Elec Installations course at College Gwent in Wales (North of Caerphily).

Same as last time, I will do a weekly/bi-weekly post, all trainees can join in and add their weekly work on here. Hopefully some can help others on their weekly journey.

My aim to get help and advice on this foru-blog for my weekly works!

So far, we have gone over what we need to cover in the next 34 weeks (about 18 odd exams/tests) some small, some more larger pieces of work to cover.

Also rushed into the science and went straight into triangles! Tri and all sorts of formula to get us ready for the assignments ahead. Covered alot more maths last night and tonight we will be having from more fun with the regs book and onsite guide!

The jump from L2 to L3 you can see straight away and its going to be a long hard journey.

14 officially in the class and 40 waiting list. It's 1 year and the lecturer said, this will be the last time it will be run like this as its going 2 year from next year. He said, just too much to cover.

Good luck everyone and another update to follow.

Morning all,

Its been about a month since I started (about 6 weeks), so I thought, I better give you all an update.

ETK3-08/B or the main science bit or science principles (chapter 6, main book), I have a exam 30 questions and a written assignment to do.

ETK-04/A -installation planning and design (chapter 4, main book), I have a exam to do (Nov, 25 Q's open book) and a written assignment to do.

QELTK3/002 (CHAPTER 1 BOOK) exam done and dusted and passed

QELTK3/003 (CHAPTER 2 BOOK) exam done and dusted and passed

Going at a crazy pace as the lecturers want to get as much done as possible before they start the booth/workshop work in the new year.

So the exams are coming thick and fast!

The science is crazy hard as its taught so fast in 1 evening, most of which, I am barely taking in and have to look on the web to make up trying to understand the science or I should really say maths!

So, that a defo struggle (science), the other stuff is mostly straighforward reading

I had a couple of questions or any help and advice needed to get through the assignments

1. anyone done them this route (EAL), happy to share some hints or tips or best sites to go to for some help on how best to answer the questions (if you have done this before)?

2. The science principles again as above for the assignment - best places to get help or pointers on how to best tackle it.

NOT looking for answers for the 2 - just some advice on how to best tackle them. Generally where to look on the web to see if there are anysites tthats give a good break down on how these assignmennts work and what is needed to pass them.

The chaps are great (in class) , but dont really want to copy anyone's work in class, so limited asking 'what they did'. Mainly because everyone is doing it their way.

Usually approach the lecturers after you start it and ask them to have a look, but not started them.

With half term next week, finall having the chance to sit down and have a go, so anyone who's done the EAL route and done similiar assignments, grateful for any pointers.

Apart from the above all good and really enjoying the course.

I have found out , this course is the final year for this 1 year night course route, from next years all course will be 2 years and you can't get on the course without you being working in the industry (trainee). Something the lecturers have been talking about since the start of this course!

Not sure whats going on, but there seems to be a massive overhaul and the plumbers courses are affected too! I will try to find out more why 1 year route wont be running from next year.

Good luck everyone and another update to follow.

Hi All,

Massive apologies for not updating the work to date, but crazy, crazy few months and summer passed real quick.

But great news, its all done and dusted and I have passed the EAL Level 3 aned the cert came last week!

Yes, with the stop start covid, its was a long slog and hard in places, the science was a eye opener (could be taught better)!

So here is the latest

Passed
Coleg Gwent 2020 - 2021
EAL Level 2 Diploma in Electrical Installation
Coleg Gwent 2021 - 2022
EAL Level 3 Diploma in Electrical Installation

Looking to complete
18th Edition IET Wiring Regulations
Initial and Periodic Inspection and Testing of Electrical Installations / Inspection, Testing & Certification of Electrical Installations

Also going to look for some trainee work in a company., decided not going the house bashing / domestic route, not for me! Keen to get into a company or industry route, enjoyed DOL stop start and more industrial setups!

Good lad, best of luck going forward, I'm boxing my regs & I&T over thr coming months, was going to do EV as well but as the 2919 is no all but dead and industry bodies not giving any details if 2919 will be recognised RPL for the new 3 tiered EV quals, I'll end up going down the BPEC solar route, would prefer C&Gs solar/renewables but no bugger does it (BPEC expires every 5 years so you can guess which one every bugger is providing....).

Cheers Lister,

Yes, moving onto certs which have promise and ones that are been offered and accepted by all.

Local company not far from us, is looking for engineers (well sparks), and want the 18th and I&T. So using their job requirements as a guide, on what I need to do next.

I am going to look at the local colleges again and monitor the renewable courses as they will be needed soon enough!

I will update as soon as I get accepted on a course.

Just been a mad few months, I did not get time to post on a regular basis.
