N.Power and Smart Meters letter today

Got a letter today from my energy supplier, saying that they are in the process of installing Smart meters to all of their Customers, and will be informing me within the next couple of weeks, when they will be coming to change my Meters over, question is can I refuse? Your thoughts and answer will be appreciated.

We are all moving towards energy saving devices LED lighting etc etc so who is using up all this electricity, businesses the internet etc etc, turn off the internet and look at the savings..........

I just ignore all the smart meter mail, too.

I know of one Private company which is constructing 42 mini power stations around the U.K. intending to sell the electricity they produce to the National grid.
I am sure there are others.

What energy source are they using?

Did you read the smart meter terms and conditions? My supplier hid them behind a maze of links and it was very difficult to get all the information, but after reading them I'd never agree to having a smart meter fitted.

My reply is the same as I posted,nothing to do with good or bad payers

The likelihood of demand outstripping supply in the near future on a regular basis is very possible,rationing of that demand may entail restricting availability either through varying tariffs at different times or even cutting the power to households if the problem becomes severe

What if they are able to change remotely the reading of the meter and charge you whatever they wanted?How we can prove that you haven’t used all that energy?
There won’t be any manual numerical record on the digital smart meter.

why does no one ever mention the real danger of smart meters?

why are the power company spending so much on em?

tip it aint so you can have a silly box on table to tell you how much juice your kettle takes because you cant work out what kwh and how may watts your kettle takes

what the only thing a smart meter can do that is of any use to the electric company

that a normal meter cant

They can do time based charging

when they get enough of em fitted

watch how much peoples bills go up at peek times when there all in house and need the power most and the introduce different rates at different times of the day

that's there plan

The cost of the meter and the install is passed on to the customer via billing, they won't be losing out I can tell you that.

The energy suppliers will already have an idea when peak demands are....takes no working out. There will be a surge in the morning when people get up and make breakfast. Then again around early evening when people come home, make dinner, do washing, put dishwasher on etc.
The only thing I see as being wrong is the way the suppliers portray them as something that is going to save you money
A lot of commercial properties have had “smart” meters for a years now.....is the reason behind smart meters to save on having employ people to go drive around and read them and administration costs of customers submitting their own readings?

I have had EON contact me by phone, letter and email telling my meter is being phased out and must be replaced, none of this is true.

Wouldn't have one - I don't have to. Why? :
1. No idea how secure their data system is, it's a gift to burglars with an inside contact! - and a target for hackers on a grand scale!
2. Load shedding made easy - they can switch you off any time they like.
3. Ideal for variable tariffs - hit you hardest when you need it most!

Why put up with that lot for a fancy gadget that only tells you your total load and consumption - you can buy one for 30 quid!

Why would your bill increase? You remain on the exact same tariff as the current classic meter so pay the same KWH unit price and standing charge.
