Evening all! Having thought about it for a while im taking the plunge and going into business! Ive got a few names in my head but none that leap out at me, so im after some suggestions, sensible or not haha! So fire away, name my firm! !

I recon no-nonsense, un-glamorous, 'Tell them what they want to hear' names are the best. "Budget Electrics", "Fast Response Electrical Contractors", "1st Call Reliable Electricians".
Perhaps even "Down To Earth Electrics" to appeal to the "I want no bullsh*t" types or
"Clean Earth Electrics" for the green or "Don't you dare make a mess" contingent.

Whatever name you are thinking of, google it, check the domain and facebook availability, and also check companies house for current (and dissolved) companies with the same name. And while your at it check ipo.gov.uk for registered trade marks - infringement may cost you dear.

If its domestic work, i often find myself dealing with the lady of the house while the partner takes a back seat. So appeal to the ladies with your business name. Be the sheilas wheels of the electrical trade... But don't make it 'suggestive'... <strains to hear floodgates opening>

When i worked for myself I traded as "The Electrician", don't know if anyone else is using it, but it was very effective, everyone knew what i was and did, i came out top in a local search on Yell, Thomson local, google, etc.

Don't over complicate things, and on that note don't give yourself a stupid up yer own bum job title like Contracts manager, Operations director, stick to Electrician, proprietor etc.

Cheers, and good luck………..Howard
