hi guys

ive not posted here for a while im an electrician and Ive been qualified for the past ten years
recently i decided to go self employed and cant yet afford to register with a governing body just yet

done my first house rewire and now need to issue a certificate every sparky that i ring doesn't appear to be registered either but they all offer to give me a certificate and i don't want to pay someone who isn't registered to test it for me when i could quite easily test it myself

so could someone kindly comment and give me advice if i go ahead and test it myself what sort of come backs can i expect as i don't want to ruin my reputation.

the property as been bought at an auction to be done up and sold on

1.has any building work been done that has involved LABC?

2. whereabouts are you?

3. you can certify the installation yourself. just that it won't be signed off by LABC under part pee.

whats labc
local authority building control. if you certify yourself, they'll want around ÂŁ300 to get it checked and signed off, unless they have already raised a building notice for other works, e.g. extension/s etc.

hi mate thanks for your reply I phone a napit registered guy he said I can test it myself so long as I notify building control

Yep and there's a good chance your get stung for a few quid for the notice because your not registered with a scheme and if you have not got the Qualifications building control want to see so you can cert the job yourself and have it passed by them, then your have to get a 3rd party certification.

Up to you mate, yourve been told.

have you got 2391 .I used to be registered with scam but all I do now is download from iee website the appropriate form and send it to BC ,if they question it I email them my 2391 (which in there words proves my competance) and everytime they are happy .save your money.

not round here, mate. they'll accept my qualifications and certs if it's part of an extension, or new build. but if it's only electrical work, my qualifications don't count unless i'm a member of a scam. work that one out logically.
