dredski

i have a job to add an additional socket in a kitchen and i know i need to complete a minor works certificate but what test or tests will i have to perform i have a fluke 1652 tester. please help :)

If you got the M/W cert you should see the test required, ,

R1+R2, I/R, Zs, RCD t you will also have to verify type of supply, EQ bondinmg, polarity, OCPD detail of new / extended circuit etc etc

I think thats it - Im sure I'll be corrected if im wrong :D

can the test all be done at the socket or will i have to go to the board

Also, don't forget even minor works such as extra sockets in kitchens is notifiable, if you're not registered you'll need to get your local building control involved. And your extra socket will need to be RCD protected,.

Dredski are you an electrician. because you have a tester but no idea how to test the circuit. where did you get the minor works cert.

Because if you cant test then fill out the cert incorrectly and there is a problem , u will be liable

yes i am a new electrician but i have only filled in a new installation certification and i kno how to do all the tests..if u read my thread carefully i was asking what needed to be tested for a socket upgrade as i have not done a minor works cert before

i dont want to go on but you said in your earlier post ' can i do all the tests from the socket''

You have a part p assesment with the nic coming up , they will go to town on you , The one thing for sure is that they will grill you on testing ,,

as eddie said, i would get this clear in your mind before you have your assessment as this is a pretty basic question andone thatyou definitely should know if you want to pass :p

I just can't believe this question has been asked from someone who is an electrician

oh diddums at least he asked and didnt 'have a go' without asking. good on him for asking and with replies like ^^^^^^ no help at all he'll prob just take a flyer now. Hope all who unhelpfully replied realise that they are making the situation worse just to make themselves feel a bit bigger. Bet their mrs wears the trousers at home ffs

oooohh someones tired :p

i suggest you read the op again and the other threads he has posted too

he is a qualified electrician that is awaiting his assessment to be recognised as a competent person and he has asked what tests to carry out on an additional socket  very basic stuff

he has had quite a few sensible replies, mine included

suggest you keep up with the posts before making such childish comments in future :p

i bet your the first to complain about the standard of electricians on competent persons schemes too

Oh dear someone is in a bad mood, a helpful post from me this time. :D

In the On Site Guide, page 150, there is an example of a Minor works certificate.

That was my thinking also.

All the tests you need to do are there in front of you on your Minor Works Cert. All you are doing is filling in the blanks really and checking that your results comply:rolleyes:

No we are not having a go , but people actually die each year from people who do electrical work and dont realise what they are doing, now im not directing this post a dredski because he probably does safe work. But dont understand why we should encourage Mr DIY to carry out electrical jobs. I did a 4 to 5 year training to be an electrician , But you seem to tink its good to encourage anyone that asks which worries me. Dredski is not one of the DIYers so yes we should help, and my post was a bit harsh,

I THINK THIS SITE IS FANTASTIC FOR ADVICE AS WE ALL LEARN NEW THINGS EACH DAY. BUT IF YOU SAY WE SHOULD ENCOURAGE DAVE THE PLUMBER OR CHRIS THE CHIPPY TO DO ELECTRICS THEN I THINK MAYBE THE SITE AND I HAVE DIFFERENT OPINIONS
