Hi all, been in the electrical trade for the last ten years and in that time i served my apprenticeship whilst working for a maintenance company.
My qualifications are as follows

2330 level 2
2330 level 3
Keyskills level 2
NVQ level 2
2382- 17th edition
2391- inspection + testing

Notice i have not completed my NVQ 3, this is my problem!

A few years back the work dryed up at the company i worked for( was half way through my NVQ 3 at the time) and was also offered a fair bit of work to go self employed, after applying for some jobs with no luck i had no real choice with bills to pay i went self employed.

I was so busy working away from home forgot i was still doing my NVQ 3 the college never chased me untill 4 months later, i told them i was self employed and they said i cant continue with NVQ. I was annoyed to say the least.

Cut a long story short, i am now employed again and have been for the past 9 months doing maintenance and testing, employer recently won some work onsite so meens i need ECS card and require my JIB card.

Do i have to complete my NVQ 3 to be graded approved electrician??

Sorry for banging on, just want to let you know my situation.

Many thanks for reading

Regards Simon

you may get graded as a provisional approved electrician..

(1) Must have been a registered Apprentice or undergone some equivalent method of training and have had practical training in electrical installation work.

(2) Must have obtained an NVQ Level 3 in electrical installation work (or approved equivalent) - See Note 1.

(3) Must have had two years' experience working as an Electrician subsequent to the satisfactory completion of training and immediately prior to the application for this grade.

(4) Must have demonstrated competence and obtained a suitable qualification (the City & Guilds 2391 or the EAL Level 3 Diploma in Inspecting and Testing Electrotechnical Systems and Eqipement (500/3542/3) are suitable qualifications) in the inspection, testing and commissioning of installations - see Note 2.

Note 1: If the applicant meets the other three criteria but has not achieved an NVQ Level 3 in electrical installation, then a "Provisional" grading may be awarded if the following criteria are both satisfied:
