went back today to find several problems.
they had indeed just had their board changed had wasn't fully tested.
i found N-E fault on to landing sockets, so when something was being pluged in and switched on, trip goes the rcd.(someone had changed the sockets to chrome ones(and didnt do a good job of it):rolleyes:
also found a socket in the loft tapped off the upstairs lighting circuit with a table lamp pluged in wired wrong causing the 230v on the neutral.
I took the socket out,removed the 1.5 t+e feeding it and wired in new light in loft from upstairs lights. all is good now.thanks for you kind help guys:)

although i was right with my first thoughts:p;)

Is it T-N-S or TN-C-S check the Ze at the supply to check the earth and neutral integrity. A lost neutral will cause 230V between earth and neutral in a T-N-S supply
