Doing the Initial Verification Inspection and Test on Monday and dont really have any experience of testing. Anybody done this already or got any useful advice?

Is it 2394 your doing as that is the first part of the old 2391-10 ie initial verification of all electrical installtations
2392 is initial for domestic and is only lv2
2395 is forperiodic inspecting and testing all existing installations ie EICR formerly PIR
2391-10 covered initial and existing installations in one course so would have saved your employers some money
2396 is design and verification formerly 2391-20

as for the course
read all course material and take plenty notes REad gn3 until you cant read no more then tread it some more lol
get a copy of gs38
the memorandum of guidance on elecy at work regulatons 1989
learn whats a statutory document id elecy at work regs , health and safety act 1974
parts 6 and 7 of the regs
practice calculations for resistances
practice writing out all test procedures in bullet points
learn how to draw earth fault loop diagrams of systems fully labelled ie TT, Tn-s and TN-c-s

you have loads to learn but very little time to prepare so use what time you have wisely mate unless you want to be doing resists
let us know how it goes
Good luck

The thing I suggest is watch Youtube videos on inspection and testing, there are some really good ones on there, also if you can get access to the meggar dvd it's even better. Otherwise read the GN3 and onsite guide especially the appendix sections lots of helpful information there.

As for the doom sayers who say you aren't ready, don't listen to them. Get access to an MFT and practice if possible the college might let you.

BTW I passed the Dec C&G 2391 with no electrical experience at all and yes it is possible only if you put the effort in.

Get the Niceic DVD initial verification testing inspection. Helped me no end they go thought the whole procedure.........if you don't have the time to get the dvd you could always subscribe to the learning lounge they have all the dvd's on that site here's an excerpt.

Good luck mate

The coding part is all down to experience and knowing whether something is right or wrong. Remember some pics have no faults.
