Hi everyone, I've just recently been offered an apprenticeship and will have an induction day on Tuesday and start work on site Wednesday.

Any intial tips? I have already done a year at college studying a level 2 Diploma (essentially the theory you learn in the first year of an apprenticeship, but limited practical work) but this will be my first taste of the world of work.

I would say I'm a little nervous but also excited to finally start working instead of wasting another year at college!!

Many thanks

Kieran

Always listen carefully, never be afraid to ask even if it seems silly or trivial and don't play with your phone ! :smiley2:
And although you're there to learn you'll be expected to do mundane stuff like making tea and cleaning up - we all had to do it and still do, in fact thorough cleaning up is a very important part of being a really good tradesman.

Always ask what you can do next once you've finished the task in hand or if your mentor has popped off to the stores etc and you have finished pick up a broom and have a sweep up or just a general tidy up. My 1st year apprentice who starts his day release on Tuesday but has been with me for 4months already is picking it up quickly. For instance if I'm on some steps making off an armoured cable and he's there watching he has learnt to pick up the tool I'll require next without me repeatedly asking...goes along way. He also makes a good brew

hi mate, just out of curiosity are they gonna start you on level 3 at college then? im assuming u did the 2365 level 2

Leave your phone OFF until it's your own time, nothing worse that trying to show, or tell somebody something and you have the phone glued to the side of your head.
