New Apprentice looking for advice

I started my apprenticeship in september when I was 16 working on domestic maintenance repairs, but have been told I can't complete my NVQ lvl 3 just doing domestics.
My employer is going to see if he can transfer me to new builds

I just wanted to know if anyone can give me advice on how to act on new build sites, and what it would be like as a 17 year old

Just don't be too lippy , if they give you crap just accept it if they see it bothers you they will just keep going, if they ask you to make drinks just do it, we've all been there its annoying but all part of becoming the team. Don't sit playing on your phone every one hates that. And be pro active ask questions and don't wait till be told what to do when you've finished doing a job ask for another job don't wait to be told.

I agree with the phone thing this is becoming a major problem put it this way when you go to the pictures your told to switch it off for 2-3 hours so if you can do without it for that then its the same at your work yep check on breaks fine .

Now if you cannot live without it then you will be a second rate electrician yep hard I know but I employers are getting sick of zombie type employees not paying attention at their work

i sacked my own son for using the phone while supposed to be working. sacked him again the next day, and the next, then gave up.

Haha, reminds me of when i was a lad! Just turned 16, went out with the boss on my 1st day to a site in Hayes. Big new build, houses and flats etc. Was in 1986. Wouldn't say boo to a goose, just little me surrounded by big sweaty builders! Anyway, to cut a long story short i stayed on that site for probably up to a year. The first couple of days were a bit intimidating but after that everything was as cool as can be. Got on really well with a couple of "old chippies" , good old lads. So to sum up, it's something we've all had to do. Makes us better for it, glad i done it. Loads of happy memories! Hope today's young lads will feel the same way when they're older! Happy days!

Remember, when 17, being on a club alteration in Sheffield. Out on the town with two massive brickies, totally legless after the first 3 pubs. Woke up the following morning to laughter all around, with a really bad head, remembered nothing and took stick for a month. They got me back to the digs, though.
A couple of years later, i was out on sat night, local, trying to get into a club late at night. The bouncers threw me out, saying I was under age. I landed on the floor outside, with one stood above me, only to be picked up by one of the brickies, the bouncer on the road in front of a bus . He and two of his mates pulled two more bouncers out and pinned them against the wall, not pretty. The last time I was refused entry.
The moral.
Never take the **** out of 'em until you earn their respect....you might have to pick yourself up.

couldnt do the work here without a phone. for some stupied reason they wont allow you to have walki talkies on site.

how are you supposed to bell cables without a phone?

because some Muppet has written on the cables in red pen or marker and not permanent so it has rubbed off. i might only be an apprentice but i never get told off because me markings have come off, cause i buy decent markers and keep spare sparpies in pocket

Or just push them in front of the telehandler if they really annoy you

And i don't mean the blokes delivering teles i mean the big jcb forklift thing

My friend got hit by one.

Emm you do what they did in the olden days you use those things called legs and walk between both end

nah its convinience that we use them.

there are normally just the two of us on the site (3 floors plus basement)

long walk to go back to them when belling cable from rooftop plant room to ground floor
