New builds

HI all,

With the changes recently to building control i'm being asked more often to quote for new builds, both for builders/electrical contractors as well as private homeowners.

I've found that i get in pretty early to get the roof side done but have to wait months to get in and get it wired and commissioned due to the length of time that the builders take.

This means that with standard RECC terms i end up with a lot of money outstanding while having supplied most/all of the materials and done most of work so just wondering if anyone has any pointers on how to structure contracts/payments so that i'm not exposed.

Thanks,
e

stage payments.

We have a 20% stage payment at panel installation stage, 20% upon final completion (10% initial deposit, 50% advance equipment payment at 21 days in advance).

We do staged payments, deposit and advance, upon panels installed, upon inverter installed, commissioned - later only applies to self build / custom build as we can then work with the EPC provider re timing of commissioning. If commissioned before the EPC issued, lower (reduced rate) FiT payments.

Thanks Worcester. If the pv is required by building control is it able to get the higher tariff at all? I had assumed that the epc would be done after the commissioning...

if the owner wants higher FIT then there needs to be 2 EPC's produced, 1 before the solar is commissioned, 1 afterwards (and after the MCS cert and FIT application submitted if you want to be really safe.)
