Hi i have been trading for the last 4 years as a sole trader subbing myself labour only to electrical contractors.
I have 2 months ago gone into a limited company with a friend ofn mine who iv paired up with the last year & half.
What i would like to ask is to do with us now taking on our own work & subbing sections of or whole jobs off of some of the firms we have been working for.
17th edition neither of us yet have it so need to know if we are to take the full course or the update course?
Inspection & testing, which course do people recommend, we take on mainly commercial work but want to be able to do domestic, we also want to be able to sign off our own work, both commercially & domestically.
I myself can test to a point but am not fully confident in all that i need to do & especially when it comes to the form filling in & referanceing ect therfore know i defo need to do a course, but dont want to start too deep & it all go over my head, would rather get better understanding of the more basic elements before attmpting the 2391, any ideas?
Next would be multifuntion test meter that does not trip the rcd on a loop test, whats would people recommend?
Lastly where would i best get downloadable test sheets for EIC MWC PIR & any others i may need, ones that i could print off or fill in on the pc & then print off giving a more ploished look, i am happy to pay for these just need to know the best place to get them.
Sorry such a long post & i thank anyone in advance for any information they can help me with!
Regards
Craig

Get the 2382 (17th) full course and accompany that with the 2391 inspection and test......get yourself the requirements for electrical installations and guidance note three and studdy em first......you should be allowing yourself at least a month with GN3 before attempting the 2391 as it aint for beginners mate int that one..........

is there a lesser inspect & test course i can do first as im fully aware of how hard the 2391 is & would rather develop a better understanding of inspecting & testing before going for the big one? Other than the two book you mention is there any other literature you would recommend, not just for testing but for the benefits of running the business itself & all the assosiated froms filling & designing i maye need to do?

you dont NEED to do 2391, it is not a requirement to be part P, 17th, just do an update if you are 16th already, what quals have you got?, and as for forms, a good quality software package like amtech??

for a start the guidance note three is the book that both the 2392 and the 2391 are based on so i would not reccomend any other book/s to you for inspection and testing as it could be confusing.....the on site guide is a book you should DEFINETELY have......model forms for minor works ...Install cert (single and multiple signiture) periodics are in all three books mentioned so that should give you an idea......the three books mentioned here are the ones published by the IET for the purposes of electrical installs/inspect and test within the UK so i would be sticking to these mate..........other books by different authers may have conflicting stuff in em so i wouldn`t bother if it were me.......but its your call mate.......

wicked cheers guys, your comments are much appreciated & taken on board!
Jase I am well aware i dont need it but im an honhest person & due to me havin not done or needed to do much testing since qualifying it s an area im not confident in & know im not up to scratch in so its a case of me wanting to do it to hopefully make me a better spark as at the moment i wouldnt feel confident in making sure it was all done correct, practically inspecting a install i feel ok but there are points that i find grey areas & practically tesing im ok but not 100% but esecially when its comes to filling in the sheets im not too confident at all! As i say im big enough to admit im an installation only spark really up until this point in time & if im going to sign work off its my responsibility to make sure i know what im doing! Even if i fail il be happy having done the course as im
