Hi everyone!

This is my first post so please go easy :D

I've decided that I want a change of career and become an electrician.
I currently work 9 to 5 in an office, but I feel that now is the time to move onto something more hands-on and challenging aswell as enjoyable and lucrative.

Im hoping to get pointed in the right direction of where to begin in and which course to take. I've heard that the C&G qualifications are the main ones to take, so if anyone can advise me on how and what then I'd really appreciate it.

I live in Essex, so a course somewhere in the county would be ideal as well as part time and in the evening.

Thanks!!

hi there i`m new to this site and need pointing in the right direction

i have been working as a domestic electrician for over nine years with no qualification`s

my question is i have just sat my 17th edition requirements for electrical installation BS7671:2008
I understand that there are two types of this course
(2382-10 = 3 day course or 2382-20 = 1 day course
so can anyone tell me why i did 2382-10 - 60 questions in 2 hour course and not a 1 day full course
any reply would be nice

The 2382-20 is the update from the 16th edition and only contains the new stuff, not the whole book.
Having no previous qualifications you would have had nothing to update from.

Morning , I'm another who is looking for a new start as an electrician, made redundant from sales role previous fully qualified motor mechanic and auto electrician, do not want to go back, i completed my apprenticeship 30 years ago, then engineer insatlling copiers and printing machine always been a hands on type. Can someone out there give some good advice as were to start. i am about to pay out for a course that covers domestic installation, part P and 17th edition, I do want to be able to work in commercial as well in future, so if anyone can give me some good advice it would be great as I have spoken to numerous training companies offering electrical training ranging from ÂŁ1995 to ÂŁ5858 not sure what route to take, long message i know but just hope someone can help regards Paul

You'd need the C&G 2330 or 2357 for that, which will take 2-3 years.
Try your local college - they're usually the best, and also the cheapest.

There are plenty of threads on this forum about 'fast track' courses - have a read of those and make up your own mind, also bear in mind most of the people suggesting the idea of them are people thinking of doing them rather than people who have successfully done them and gone on to work in the industry.

Hi mate this is my first thread on here i signed up looking to see if anyone knows of any work about...Do yourself a favour DO NOT become an electrician half of all my friends are out of work it is terrible out there ...

If any electricians are reading this Do you agree with me i have 17th ed and 2391 and am an approved JIB member and still cant find work !!
what the hell is going on lately !!!!!!!!

not what you know mate, but who

At least you have your approved ticket, so you will BE one of the first back in, on big sites anyway, as the others wont get a look in, until things pick up again in about 3 years, then when it gets busy, the agencies will be grabbing people off the street, to get jobs finished.
