ive seen quite a few recent installs in commercial propertys were the electrician has installed new plastic consummer units.

so basically if it was in a commerical office for instance it would be okay to use plastic but in a warehouse it would need to be metal.

As Richy says. You, as the qualified person, design and specify equipment to suit needs, use, and environment, and also compliance with the regs.

You would use whatever is suitable for the environment.

You can't generalise in that way, you have to select the correct equipment for each installation.

The office may be wired in steel conduit and therefore need a steel DB, the warehouse may need a GRP DB due to the environment
