HI

I am having my first assesment on Friday and am changing a consumer unit. I am very new to electrics and have a question about the continuity test.

The house has celing fans in every room and are very heavy, is there a way to test the lightning circuit for continuity without taking down each and every fan?

I am sure there is no other way but being my first job I wanted to check as I cannot see any other way to check for r1+r2 readings

many thanks

thanks for the prompt repy
the fans need to be taken down to get to the electrics, everything seems to be encased. the lights are built in to the unit and only bulbs are exposed, the switch goes into the housing of the fan. I will need to put something down for the result so I guess they will have to come down?

only from the switch if he would accept that

was jus thinking that, measure line to earth through the switch

I may take one of the fans down and look to see if it is possible to get to the electrics another way, its just not obvious, again I am new and its probably simple !!!

can you not get a lightmate into a lampholder at each fan/light and clip to the metalwork with your earth lead?

you can buy them on ebay, either singly ( for the fittings you have ) or a pack of 5 for different bases.

sorry to sound stupid be there are also 230v gu10 downlights in 2 rooms, I would just take the reading from the one fitting ? theres no point in going to all 8 in one room, think I answered my own question there !

best to find the end of line and read from there if possible. ( you can get GU10 lightmates as well as " normal" BC and ES .

Alternatively if it is a class 1 fitting then use a wander lead and measure R2. Nothing to disconnect simple.

Edit already mentioned by Malcolm sorry.

Personally, I would take a Ze measurement myself rather than rely on someone else's maybe drive by scrap of paper.
