As many, I'm for expert advice. I just had an extract fan fitted in my kitchen. The make the electrician brought was Addvent, I think 6 inch fan. I realised today, sitting about 9 foot from the fan eating a meal that there was a very unpleasant cold breeze. The whole room is just not warm now but the wind caught my attention. As its been snowing & the wind is coming from the east it would have been hitting the wall the fan is installed in dead on. I walked closer & it was windy, so I held some kitchen paper & then a plastic bag near it - both blew into the room when held on one side. I videoed this & sent it to a friend who said there was something wrong.
I then went outside & you can see straight into the kitchen & the kitchen light through the fan. There is no grill on it.
I texted the electrician & she asked what would I expect as basically a hole had been made in the wall, so of course it is cold. She said she didn't know what she could do about it. I expected some level of mild draft but this is like an open window & I measured the temperature of the kitchen & it was 16 degrees even with the large radiator on full whack, with the rest of the house from 18.5 to 19 degrees.
My questions are -
I would never have had this fan put in if I thought I could no longer use my kitchen in comfort. I am disabled with a chronic arthritic condition that means I struggle in the cold. I am always wrapped up at the best of times. I am worried about heating the kitchen & keeping the place & me warm with effectively a hole in the wall. Can anyone provide advice on how to tackle this please? I feel a different fan is needed but what are your views? Thanks!
