Hi all i have just joined the forum and require some advice , i am currently working through my Level 2 ad 3 C&G 2330 with OLCI as they best meet my requirements, as a little back ground i have been a Aerial Installer for 10 years, i have several qualifications with in that industry but now want to more into electrical, i have done a lot of electrical work over the years, i have worked with sparkies most of my life however never got around to getting qualified, i intend to get through the C&G with in 6 months as i have been studying for the last few months already, once i complete them next is 2356 NVQ, now i have been told that it will be onsite based more than anything, my problem is i am currently working for my self on the Aerials only, i have approached a few local companies offering my self free for one day a week to get more onsite knowledge however they all seem quite reluctant so far.

what is confusing me is the whole Part P thing and signing work off, does all work need to be signed off or just some ?

what are my options ?

can i do electrical work with just level 2 and 2 2330? then build up to completing 2356 NVQ ?

what about sinning work off ?

they have also said i will need to do the 17th edition update as well.

my main questions once i have 2330 can i work to then get experience ?

my head now hurts:D

thanks in advance.
Ian

yes you will need the 17th and if you are doing domestic you will be able sign off/certificate work that is not notifiable, but for work that is notifiable you will either have to be under an umbrella competent person scheme (elecsa, napit or niceic) or recognised by your LABC as a competent person (that option might not even be avalable to you locally- depends on your local authority)

Thanks for that, i have been reading into it and if i understand correctly:confused: i can complete my level 2 and 3 C&G 2330, then join ELECSA on the understanding that i will complete my 17th edition ASAP as per there website(must be completed with in 12 months)

if i am correct this will then allow me to do domestic work and sign off via them ?

i will also still need to complete BS7671 certificates.

sounds like you've got it sorted - virtually everything is supposed to have a certificate now days, although i don't think the general public know it, hence cowboys who don't test and can there fore work for less. An electrical installation certificate( EIC) is for new installations, and larger additions and alterations. Whereas a minor electrical works certificate is for smaller additions and alterations and repair/replacement of accessories.
