New meter

Just a quickie. I got a letter saying eon want to change my electric meter, no problem, just wondering do you reckon they'll fit a smart meter? Letter doesn't specify. But I don't see why they wouldn't.

He's got rid of the old radio teleswitch etc. and replaced the tails between fuse carrier and meter (from red/black 16mm to brown/blue 25mm) but left the old 16mm red/black tails from meter to isolator. After the isolator is a Henley block which splits my tails cos I have 2 CUs. One of them I had intentionally left longer than needed cos I am planning at some point to move one of the CUs. He's shortened them. Why?

Yes, very true Eng. What a plonker. I am most annoyed that I made him a coffee, and I used the good stuff too, not the Tesco Value. Daft as it sounds, I didn't notice the tails the first time I looked, probably cos he's done a neat job and the whole area looked de-cluttered, with the absence of the radio teleswitch and associated junction boxes and tails. I suppose you live and learn. :shout:

He's shortened them. Why?

To add to the weight of his scrap copper ton-bag in his van, of course. Copper is valuable now, you know. A few inches off each set of tails you visit soon adds up.

I wonder how much training meter installers actually get. I mean coming into the job with zero related experience in any way to electrical connections.
