Im just about to get a van on contract hire, non maintained and 15k millage allowance PA , which as Im just about town will more than do me fine, they sort the tax out each year and no mot's required as new van, can be signwritten and mid reange vans start at £ 175 a month plus VAT, there will generally be 3 months in advance as a deposit but you get a brand new van for it, they will credit check you so if you fail the credit check then you would have to do contract hire in what they call non status ( bassically poor credit) youll be charged more per month about £ 250 - £ 300 a month plus VAT and they will want more up front generally 1k,
they told me a lot of people are having to go this road now, as last year a lot of firms folded, the owners have set up again but have struggled to be accepted as prime customers being 'new companies' as finance co's have tightened the lending rules and have become stricter.
thing is you could end up buying a lemon and the can end up costing you loads to put right ,- its why I havnt bought one outright for 3 - 4 k and have gone down the contract hire route.
good luck with everything mate
