I would say make sure you have all your qualifying documents ready:

Qualification Certificate
Instrument Accuracy Documents or calibration for your test instruments
Complaints procedure in place
Previous Test Certificates
H&S Policy if necessary (if you employ over 5 people)
Reference material for instance BS7671 (latest edition), Electricity at Work Regs, Guidance notes (3 in particular) Part P (download from Planning Portal)

You will find all the information on their website on what you need. Have confidence, they will ask you about testing, how we obtain results and how we check results by calculating..etc

If you are showing work - make sure all labels are on C/U

The above is for the NICEIC Approved - Have you considered ECA Registered Membership?

I like the NICEIC because all the old ladies ask for it :) they don't no elecsa. I am doing a Fuseboard change as one of my jobs but I wasn't going to put a next inspection certificate on it until they come out because I can't put an NICEIC next inspection sticker on util I have been approved and I don't want to but a pack of 25 non niceic stickers to throw away after my inspection

find out what biscuits the assessor likes....fancy chocolate ones generally go down well.....lol
no really, what they will be looking for is a basic knowledge of BS7671. a basic understanding of approved document P, that you have a copy of the EAWR, that theres a suitable job to show em, that you have public liability in place to the tune of 2 million, that you have the necessary dated, callibrated test equipment in order for you to test the work you do....and, as i have said...tea n biscuits dont go amiss either....
but i wouldn`t worry too much about it....

well i can assure you now that a lot of the guys in here dont....
theres a lot in here that are with elecsa...myself included...
ask em....theres reasons for it....

Luckily its all the same thing now (as of April 2013) - NICEIC, ELECSA under the Electrical Safety Register. I would suggest buying the next inspection labels as it is not essential having the NICEIC logo - The wording set out by BS7671 is the important part so use all the stickers up! In addition RCD label and mixed colors if necessary and schedule of circuits close by, making sure all IP rating around the c/u is correct and all blanks in place. Having everything in place proves to the inspector you know what you are doing and you are conscientious you comply fully with BS7671. Knowing you can test is also important.

It’s sad that you had to say no more money to them for them to pull their fingers out.
