Hi everyone,
Im not an Electrician, I am a Design Engineer but am currently working for an Electrical Contracting company as they have agreed to fund my education for this year.
As part of my HNC I have to take a product used at my workplace which I feel could be improved and refine it. I have chosen the 110v temporary light (tall tripod type) as ours are expensive and break very easily. An example of one of my design concepts can be seen at the link bellow, this is one of many and demonstrates the idea of interchangeable heads.

Another tool I am developing is a staff for the testing of Menvier smoke detector heads. It allows the engineer to remove and replace the protective dust cover as well as waft the test smoke away after testing without the need for a stepladder. A prototype of this is in operation at our company and I have had much positive feedback. The design can be seen here:

As you all work in the industry and thus these products are intended for you I would welcome your feedback or suggestions.
