Discuss Newcastle in the Electricians Chat - Off Topic Chat area at ElectriciansForums.net

Blyth is a bit grim but there's plenty of other things close at hand to cheer you up. Depending on what you're into of course.
There's some beautiful architecture in Newcastle, you're a hop step and a jump away from a lot of history and some world class museums. There's always a band playing not too far away

I hear they bottle up North Sea water up there and call it Newcastle Brown Ale...
No no no, Brown (or a borrel o dog) as it's known in the best place on earth. Used to be brewed from the purest waters of the north Tyne which rose in the far west and cascaded through fields and valleys till it was tapped off and diverted to the Gallowgate brewery where it was mixed with the finest products of selected Northumberland farmers and nurtured by skilled craftsmen from the initial mixing through fermentation, maturation and final bottling. This was a painstaking process which was made worthwhile by the high quality demanded by generations of Geordies, both at home and while working away.
Nowadays they make it in about ten minutes in Leeds from shyte and sheeps p155

so why does it taste like it's always done? same sheep's pi$$?

been on a few stag does in Newcastle. Long times also now (about 15 years ago). Was stunned that half the pubs didnt even sell Newky Brown.
Really enjoyed it thought. Nice place and nice people.

That's because it is as described in #19.
One place where I have found it, on draft, was Las Vegas. The bar was called the Crown and Anchor and was supposedly a British themed bar. It was about as British as the blokes on the main drag giving you magazines with various young lady's phone numbers in them.

It was a descent drink about 15 years ago. Haven't had it in ages though. I've gone over to the dark side now and drink lager when I go out.... which is not that often.
