Hi to all.
looking to take up training to become qualified & join the electrical industry.
Can anyone advise or recommend what training to take based on the following:

1) Wish to undertake domestic work only.
2) Wish to be able to self certify.
3) Have basic installation skill but NO electrical qualifications.
4) Have 30 yrs experience in the building trade from apprentice joiner to contracts mgr, so appreciate there is no shortcut to becoming an "overnite sparky" and do not wish to persue a half baked entrance course or some of the "take our part P course and become qualified (NOT) in 5 days" courses which are being advertised on the web.

I would appreciate any assistance whatsoever.
Thanks in anticipation.
Joe.

Hi ukstealthbomber and welcome to electriciansforums.net!

Joe, Hi,

I am new in here but long in the tooth, I have an electrical contracting business and a training business, both based in Sheffield.

There are off the shelf packages - crash courses - that might fit as you have experience but the best target in todays world is an NVQ L3 qualification. The courses I am thinking of are 4-6 weeks (not the 4 or 5 day part P), in that you get at least 17th, Part P, Test and inspection Cert (2391-10). All would be a must to get accredited by NIC, NAPIT or ELECSA allowing you to self cert.

Whilst we deliver these courses they take a real commitment, financially, as not only are you spending a few grand on training you are obviously not earning for the period - following which you are still shelling out for accreditation.

If you are out of work there is funding to help.

Regards, Gary D

Hi Gary,
thanks for the info.
can you point me in the right direction for any funding as i was made redundant and have been trying to survive by running my own business based around joinery (my trade) doing kitchen fitting and anything i can lay my hands on. The problem is there are now 40 million overnite made good diy ers who will offer to fit a door for a tenner etc and to be honest i'm really struggling. This is the reason i'm looking at the electrical side. I am committed (mentally if not financially at this moment in time) and have been looking for any funding i can find that might pay something towards the cost of getting the right training.
Once again, cheers for the info.
Regards
Joe.
