Neweys must be on their uppers.....

Had a salesman from Newey and Eyre actually come round my house today to try and get me to open an account. Told him there is nothing I would less rather do. Anyone else had any of these guys round?

nope i would not have any accounts because they rip you off, once you had it and fitted they bill you one month later and you cant reaaly argue the price, also make it hard to invoice as you dont know the cost of materials , i found city were often changing there prices , infact every time i go there the price changes !

Yep i have had the same with neweys and medlocks, they both promised me cheapest prices, best discounts blah blah...... its all fine and dandy for the first few months then i got an invoice from medlocks 7x lengths MT2 sticky trunking £6.90 + VAT per length, nearly £60!! nicely tucked in amongst a list of other stuff, called them up and they reduced it to half that(which is still not cheap).
but this is not a one off it was happening regular, i now try to pay up front and prefer to use places like TLC and (dare i say it) screwfix as at least you have a catalogue of prices in front of you and you can price a job more accurately too without any nasty surprises halfway through the job

My Neweys are fine, I just get them to produce a picking note with the prices on instead of waiting till they send it via the post, so I just have a skim through and if there's something I don't like the look of I can sort it there and then. Just remember to keep the paperwork in the van and not lying around on the job for the customer to see lol

I was once told by a ex CEF manager that they work on principle of having a quota of new accounts they have to open each year and are allowed to give very good discounts for a given time , then these drop of and if you stop using them they will just try to get you back in a few years to fill the quota again !
We always deal with just our rep at the branch and do seem to have a good re-pore , we have made it clear that if we catch them at it they will be paid there and then and the account closed with it !
This does seem to have worked quite well so far .
Although we do have a preferred wholesaler we also try to spread the purchases over more than one so we can just swap at a drop of a hat if ever needed and they know it , and if needed we can compare prices from their quotes for materials on our jobs easily .
Billing after the cover sheet comes in is a headache especially when it is a week or two late but just has to be planned into the cash flow , we always pay mostly the same afternoon as their monthly bill is received and this does earn us big brownie points / buying power .
As for returns and warranty claims i would be very concerned if we did not have the account as to whether they would take the item back sometimes?

You got it in one dp it's all to do with buying power. Company I work for spends upto £250,000 per month on materials and the wholesalers know it. They play one of against the other constantly.
Back to the original post I find neweys fine and have used a lot of branches throughout the uk and never had a problem but then again the company gives them over a million a year.

my local neweys is a good enough, although im going to open an account with eddies, know them quite well in there so should be able to squeeze some good discounts, the price of copper has gone through the roof and now ive turned into steptoe and am picking up all the scrap cable, oops im going off the post here a bit sorry, anyhow i did have a look at tlc direct and they look good prices to me,citys worst by far for prices i find thats why the managers drive about in jags and the like all that bonus from not giving out discounts,if i see that the store manager has an old banger chances are maybe more discount available.

I love all the job titles they give themselves, Branch Manager, Stores Manager, Sales Representative, Stores Assistant, etc blah blah.

I honestly wonder how many sparks have just sat down and decided to open accounts with wholesalers by their own free will? Without being chummed up from some over friendly Rep talking ****e:confused:

I did like that last bit !
But having said that the rep i referred to earlier has passed on some well paying jobs in the past and is superb at suggesting reliable new labor when we require any !

I suppose in some "extreme" circumstances and situations a Rep is tolerable to some degree, just hate seeing them all dressed up smart, driving a flash car, trash talking. Basically just "lording" it and looking more important than they actually are.

That's exactly what this guy was like. Dropped his card down a void when I was boarding my dad's loft yesterday, what a shame.

That's another thing, does anyone else on here greet people by saying your name in a deep voice, while thrusting a card into their grille? If you do, stop, because it makes people think you're a nob.
