I have been looking into joining the NIC over SELECT recently. Do you need the 2391 testing qualification to join? (Approved Contractor Scheme)

if you are a one man band, you will be the duty holder and you will be the qualified supervisor. to be a qualified supervisor, you need 2391 and a qualification such as the reg's 17th edition.

I only ask as if its the Yorkshire area the Area engineer is a guy called Joe Sampey and he is really helpful if you can prove competance in testing then they will overlook it as a requirement however be aware you will need to be very comfortable at testing as this guy knows his stuff.

I'm in south west Scotland but have had experience of inspectors visiting in previous jobs.

Also what do they class as premises?

Depends on your experience, yes usually the 2391 is required, but if you are experienced and can prove to the NICEIC engineer that you can carry out the tests correctly they may let you pass and approve you, I haven;t got it and have been in the NICEIC since 96, maybe things are different now though, I may be wrong, apologies if I am.

no you do not need 2391 if you know your testing have the 17th and 2392 plus five jobs to show the niceic plus 500

i was just on the phone to them the other day i asked about if i would need the 2391 he said no because they asses you themselves.
