If its purely for notification perposes, (part p) as long as you leave a copy of your quals with the install certs, then you dont need to be registered with anyone (I believe). However, if its to gain more work through assotiation, then NICEIC are the best known and may open more doors for you. You are lucky in Scotland, down here we have to be registered or pay loads to notify. Its a blinking joke...buts thats another thread that has been done to death and will no doubt be done gain and again and again.......lol

It really depends on what you are trying to achieve. SELECT is a Trade Association, NIC is a certification body. Most clients in the South would recognise NIC, I have no experience in Scotland so you need to take your own view on that. Others have commented on the qualifying criteria so it really is down to what you are trying to achieve.

Your not obliged to join a Scheme up here but some local councils seem to ape english law ie you must be registered by a scheme so that you are audited only things is as we all know you are not . In Edinburgh you can issue certification by "Enquiry" ie with front and back copies of your SJIB grade card and copy of your tester(s) calibration certificate I think the reason for this is Edinburgh District Council is keeping on the right side of competition and European free trade laws.

Also because of lets just say recent episodes which I believe is rife all over the country when say companies and councils scratch beneath the surface they are finding that certification with a scheme membership on it they find no tester cal certificate or qualifications to back it up and thats because the schemes will not do spot checks or police the system they are getting paid for
