hello, can somebody confirm that to do periodic inspections for domestic scheme i need to pay extra to niceic.i am 16,17th edit jib electrician also have 2391.they say membership around 420 plus another 350 for periodics. Are this correct?does elesca do same.Cheers.

The industry is in a mess as far as defining competency!

Approved Installer, Competent Person (EAWRegs 1989), Part P Scheme - Competent Persons, JIB Cards, C&G, NVQ, the list goes on!

This is because they dont want to agree amonst themselves as it protects their clubs! Each likes to claim they are the best to retain their position, leaving many sparks unsure as to where they might stand!

Clarity is required!

With regards to Stokeys comment, I don't think 2391 is a prerequisite to carrying out I&T if you aren't registered, just to be 'competant', I may not agree with it but I think this is the case.

Agreed, just being pedantic! Again, another loophole being exploited, anyone can tell a customer they are competant and then crack on with the test, no rule or reg stopping them as long as they can argue their competancy.

yes its mad , i heard a few years ago they were going to make all electricians carry electrotechnical card with all exams on them to show what you knew , i wanted this but they paniced about older sparks not willing to go back and update things and the cost, but i would welcome a card that every one had one and with out it you were not allowed to install

Thanks everybody for your response.Elesca seems says you can do periodics without any other extra fee if you have 2391,so i think Stokey is right.Tuitor on course said that city & guilds 2391 higher qualification than niceic competent persons scheme for periodics.

I spoke to ELECSA about this last week, as I've found out I've passed my 2391. They said that you only need to be registered if you need to be!! For instance if you are doing work for a housing assocation that make it a requirement to be registered with a scheme for I&T. Otherwise you do not need to.
Saved me the 400 odd quid to upgrade anyway!!
